ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Students from Dyess Elementary School will honor the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

On Friday, September 15 at 8 a.m., Dyess Elementary School will hold a flag raising ceremony and celebration in front of the school.

During the ceremony, the students will honor the 230th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution by both saying, and singing, the preamble.

Three other events are celebrating anniversaries in September, and the Dyess students will recognize them with music:

 The “Star Spangled Banner,” written on Sept. 14, 1814, will be played following the
flag raising and pledges.

 Dyess Elementary opened in September 1957 and all students will sing the school
song in honor of the 60th Anniversary.

 The year 2017 also marks the 70th Anniversary of the United States Air Force, formed
on Sept. 18, 1947, and students will show honor by entering the building to the
sounds of “Wild Blue Yonder.”

Veterans, parents and community members are welcome to join the celebration.
