ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Abilene Parks and Recreation Division was awarded the Lone Star Legacy Park Award by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS), according to a City of Abilene press release.
The award was given to Everman Park at the TRAPS annual institute on in Waco, Texas on February 28, 2018.
A Lone Star Legacy Park is classified as a park that holds special prominence in the local community and the state of Texas, according to the release.
Nominated parks must be a minimum of 50 years old and meet at least one of the following criteria, according to the release:
- The property represents distinctive design and/or construction.
- The park is associated with historic events or sites.
- The park is associated with events specific to the local community/state.
- The park is home to unique natural features.
The award marked Abilene’s third Lone Star Park Award, according to the release. Rose Park was awarded in 2014, and Nelson Park in 2016.
