Funeral services announced for Executive Director of Abilene Youth Sports Authority

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Funeral services have been announced for Jon Alan Smith, the founder of the Abilene Youth Sports Authority, according to an obituary through the Hamil Family Funeral Home. 

Smith was approximately 55 years old when he passed away Friday, August 3, according to the obituary. 

Born in 1963 in South Carolina, Smith was no stranger to Texas after being raised in Snyder and later living in Lubbock. He spent the past 14 years living in Abilene, according to the obituary. 

Smith made a large impact on the Abilene community through his work with local youth, most notably serving as the Executive Director of the Abilene Youth Sports Authority (AYSA). Through the non-profit, Smith hoped to improve every child’s life through the fun and games of sports. 

Smith is survived by his wife, Nadene, daughter Tucker Smith and his parents, JD and Donna Smith, according to the Obituary. 

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, at Beltway Park Church – South Campus in Abilene.
