Grass fire claims three structures in Eastland County

OLDEN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Two homes and one other structure were claimed in a grass fire Wednesday evening near Olden, Texas in Eastland County, according to the Eastland Fire Department (EFD). 

Eastland Firefighters responded to the blaze in the early evening hours of July 4, where one unoccupied home was already engulfed in flames. The fire also claimed another small home and one structure believed to be a trailer, according to EFD.

The Texas Forest Service diverted air assets to the fire, which was contained after over an hour of fighting it. 

Two additional homes were threatened by the fire, but were able to be saved by fire crews, according to EFD. The fire burned approximately 50 acres of land. No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is unknown, but one report states that a bottle rocket firework may have been responsible, according to Eastland County Today.

Eastland County Today posted to Facebook Friday asking for clothing donations going toward those affected by the fire.The paper is asking for Women’s size extra-large shirts, size 12 pants and 9-9.5 shoes, as well as men’s size medium shirts and 30/36 slim fitting pants.
