Harvey disaster hits close to home for Abilene woman

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – Many of you in the Big Country have been so generous to donate to the victims of Hurricane Harvey who you don’t even know but for at least one woman in Abilene, the diaster hits close to home.

Teresa Guzman recently moved from Houston and her parents, they still live there.

Despite the stressful time, she is giving back to her former community by making t-shirts.

“I had a lot of orders like right away and people sharing my post. That’s how this came about with all these shirts,” stated Guzman. “I had just posted two shirts.”

After many shares on social media, she soon found her self making a hundred shirts.

At $15 a piece, she is hoping to give back to those in need including her own family.

“It’s very hard, I wanted to go right away but there is no way,” she added.

She says looking at pictures on Facebook devastated her.

“A lot of houses were flooded up to the roof…there were kids on mattresses,” she said. “There was no rescue getting there at the time when they were needed. There was a little kid floating in the water from that happening that nobody was rescuing people. A family flipped over in a van. Five people died there.”

Her mom and dad also lost everything. Which is what prompted her to start this fundraiser.
