HASKELL, Texas (KTAB) - There's one thing that Haskell shares with many small towns: a diverse and bustling downtown shopping scene. The Haskell town square is almost nothing but unique boutiques. There are plenty to choose from, but here are two with interesting stories.
Henderson book store has been around for decades, in in the square for about ten of those years. The shop is packed, floor to ceiling, with just about any book you can imagine. Owner Martha Jarred estimates that they have "a gazillion books, because we have a little bit of everything."
A much newer store is just down the way - Texas Star Antiques. They've been open for a month, but it's been a lifetime of work getting there. Linda Short has been collecting antiques for years, and she's still adding to the collection. "She looks for fun, unique pieces." says daughter Mary Jane Buerkle.
Texas Star also has a table and coffee for the people across the area to enjoy each other's company. So whether it's books, antiques, coffee, or anything else, Haskell has you covered.
