Hendrick Neonatal Intensive Care Unit receives level three designation

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Hendrick Medical Center’s (HMC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Level three neonatal facility in perinatal care Region-D, according to a Hendrick Health System press release. 

Level three designation requires 24-hour, in-house coverage by specialized personnel and a board certified neonatologist available at all times, according to the release.

Hendrick worked to in in advanced technology to ensure the best possible outcomes for very low birth weight and/or premature infants.

“Earning this designation was an effort that required full support from the entire hospital,” neonatologist and NICU medical director Richard Deulofeut said in the release . “Receiving a Level three designation means that the hospital board of trustees, the administration, the medical staff, the nursing staff and the ancillary staff have made a commitment through the years to provide the highest quality medical care to all newborn infants.”

Hendrick Medical Center is one of 21 hospitals in Texas with a Level III Neonatal Designation, according to the release, and utilizes a large team of specialists in the unit.
