ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – If your New Year’s resolution is to sit in less traffic and you live near Texas Highway 351 in Northeast Abilene, you may complete that goal.
The Texas Department of Transportation is telling KTAB News the construction on 351 could be complete by the New Year.
“We are quite a bit ahead of schedule,” explained TxDOT Public Information Officer Mary Belle Turner.
The project started in March of this year and was expected to be finished a year later.
Now, according to TxDOT officials, it is a few months ahead of schedule.
“We are excited that it has been able to be completed early so we can get traffic back to normal in that area,” Turner said.
Some drivers are optimistic about the changes.
“The sooner the better. I live out here so I deal with it everyday but there’s alternate routes to go around and come back,” added J.D. Wilson. “I think the finished product is going to be good.”
The bridge on Interstate 20 has been poured and TxDOT expects it to be open in January.
The intersection of Highway 351 should be open after Thanksgiving.
