ABILENE, TX (KTAB) – A fluffy feeling filled the Abilene Convention Center today with the annual Kiwanis Club of Abilene’s Pancake Day luncheon – the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year.
“This is our 71st Pancake Day. We have fun it’s a very efficient operation because we’ve been doing it so long,” said Kiwanis President, Randy Roewe.
The club expects to serve 3,500 attendees at today’s event and cook about 16,000 pancakes.
“All the money raised from this goes back into the community to help kids. That’s the most important part,” said Roewe.
Even first-time volunteers with the luncheon are reaping in the perks of serving others.
“Some of the pancake makers are really nice, one even made me some pancakes,” said Katie Cloud, a volunteer with Taylor County 4-H.
There will be a second serving of pancakes this evening between 4 and 7 p.m., tickets are $6 at the door and children 5 and under can eat free.
