ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man accused of driving through a woman’s living room then stealing her cellphone so she couldn’t call for help has been arrested.

Ke’Shawn Brown, 18, was taken into custody Monday and charged with Robbery in connection to the crash that happened early Saturday morning.

Chris Ratcliff told KTAB and KRBC she thought her house on the 2600 block of S. 27th Street had exploded when she awoke Saturday morning to find her living room full of smoke and a strange light, which she thought was fire.

After running outside, Ratcliff noticed a car sticking out from the front of her house, so she went back inside, grabbed her phone, and went back out to see if she could do anything for the driver, later identified as Brown.

However, Ratcliff says Brown was already out and when she tried to call 9-1-1, he said, “you’re not calling the police. You don’t realize how much money I have. I will pay for all of this.”

Ratcliff says Brown then engaged her in a physical altercation that ended when he violently pushed her and took her phone.

Ratcliff was able to drive to a nearby gas station and finish calling for help, but before she returned home, Brown freed his car and left, though his bumper with the license plate attached was found near the scene.

Ratcliff was sleeping on the couch when the crash occurred, causing the car to land 3-to-4 feet from her head.

The strangest part? – Ratcliff says she got a desire to rearrange her furniture on a whim last week. The very couch she was sleeping on would have been underneath the window the car drove through if she hadn’t moved it.
