(WFLA) – Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it—putting peanuts in Coke is becoming a thing again.

Southerners have been going nuts over this sweet and salty concoction since forever, but the bizarre treat was thrust into the spotlight recently thanks to NowThis News.

The website posted an informational video and shared a few theories about how the snack came to be.

The true origins of the snack are somewhat of a mystery, but it’s believed to have been introduced to the South in the 1920s. According to NowThis News, workers would put their peanuts straight into the bottle so they could eat the snack without having to hold it with their dirty hands and have one hand free while snacking or smoking or to continue working.

Many people suggest using glass bottles instead of plastic bottles, but the plastic ones work as well, according to the video.

All you have to do is take a couple swigs to leave room for the nuts, then drop the salty peanuts inside the bottle. Then enjoy sipping and crunching all at once!
