SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – It’s the familiar sound of a rattle that calls in thousands from across the nation.

People from Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas and even from out west setting their sights on Sweetwater and it’s all for the annual Rattlesnake Roundup.

“I drove here from Los Angeles, about 1300 miles,” said roundup attendee Jules Sylvester.

It’s all in hopes to catch a glimpse of that rattling tail.

“It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen in your life,” said Sylvester. “It’s about shocking at first because it’s like, that’s a lot of snakes. I mean a lot of snakes.”

“It was on my husband bucket list and he’s like ‘hey let’s go,’ so it’s this this year and next year it’s running with the bulls,” said Roundup attendee Jana Brawner.

A photo was taken from the Sweetwater Fire department showing just how many cars are parked outside the Nolan County Coliseum for the annual event.

“They’re coming in and bringing all their family and friends and everything else and they’re spending money in our economy,” said local business owner and Sweetwater Jaycee Mark Meneses.

The Sweetwater Jaycees saying its a boost that can help local business owners for the rest of the year.

“8.4 million dollars into the local economy is a lot of help when you have 11 thousand people in your town,” said Sweetwater Jaycee Rob Mccann.

The wealth even spreading to neighboring cities this year.

“Our businesses do really well this weekend and so do the business in the Big Country and as a whole,” said Mccann.

Mccann adding people were even booking hotels in places as far away as Abilene, all to attend an event that some say is one that can’t be missed.
