Resident claims self defense in overnight shooting of 16-year-old boy

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — A 25-year-old resident is claiming self defense after he was accused of shooting a 16-year-old boy overnight, according to Abilene police. 

The shooting happened around midnight Tuesday in 700-block of Cherry in central Abilene.

Police on scene told KTAB/KRBC that the teen boy was taken to a local hospital with injuries of an unknown severity. 

According to police, the resident of the home told them he saw the teenager approaching the home with what appeared to be either a bat of club. That’s when police said the resident fired at the teenager. 

Police said two people, including the resident, were taken being questioned.

It was not immediately clear whether or not charges would be filed.

This case remains under investigation.
