Roscoe Collegiate ISD Edu-Vet program bringing in students, instructors from across the state

ROSCOE, Texas (KTAB) – The Roscoe Collegiate Independent School District is offering new ways for students to get a head start in a field they’re interested in. Their new edu-vet program allows students to get hands-on training from professionals and students and teacher from across the Big Country and the state are going to Roscoe to be part of it.

“These schools are really invaluable, especially for what I want to do,” says senior Kayla Justiss.

Kayla and Morgan Bowers are just two students in the Edu-Vet program.

“Here we are offering a clinical setting for the students to get certification for their Certified Veterinarian Assistant,” says Dr. Betsy Oesch.

Morgan says she loves “cattle” and “bovine reproduction,” but she hopes to be an LVN.

“If you can learn 50 animals on how they work anatomically and physiologically, you can learn a human easy,” Bowers says.

Kayla was a student at Breckenridge ISD. Her mom found the Edu-Vet program online and they relocated to a home they already owned in Abilene. Now, the senior commutes to Roscoe everyday.

“On top of my desire to be a vet, finding out they have this CVA program here really as the icing on the cake,” Justiss says.

Students aren’t the only ones relocating for this program. Dr. Betsy Oesch practiced in Fort Worth and moved to Roscoe six months ago to be a veterinarian at the Edu-Vet Pet Hospital in Roscoe.

“I was looking to do something with a little less stress and also pass on my knowledge and wisdom to the next generation,” she says.

Dr. Oesch adds the Edu-Vet program is a unique program for students that will help them succeed.

“We have a state of the art hospital here, which gives them the opportunity to work in a situations where they can go anywhere in the US and work for another vet,” she explains.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Edu-Vet program and Roscoe Collegiate ISD, there will be an open house on Saturday, February 24 at the STEM Center off of I-20 in Roscoe.
