CLEVELAND, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - According to Click2Houston.com, a man from Cleveland, Texas is one of the sailors missing after the USS John McCain collided with a cargo ship.
Family members told Click2Houston.com that John "C.J." Hoagland was aboard the destroyer when it collided with the Liberian cargo ship.
He had been serving on the ship since 2016.
His mother, Cynthia Kimball, said that she and other family members were contacted about the collision by the Navy on Monday.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Pacific Fleet commander announced that remains of sailors were found as divers searched flooded compartments of the vessel, but Hoagland's family has not been notified of any new developments.
Hoagland, 20, works as an electronic technician for the Navy. He was a 2015 graduate of Shoemaker High School in Killeen where he was involved in the junior ROTC program.
