ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene police say scammers are using their non-emergency phone number to call citizens to collect fraudulent fines.

Information released Friday afternoon reveals the scammers are using number (325)673-8331 to make fraudulent attempts to collect fines for “missed court dates or unpaid warrants. The subjects inform citizens they need to make a payment over the phone immediately.”

Wednesday, police revealed the scammers have also been attempting to collect fines for missed Jury Duty, and at least one citizen fell victim, paying the suspects $2,500.

Police want to remind the public that “law enforcement authorities will never demand payments over the phone” and “citizens are urged to never provide payments over the phone related to such scams, and if in doubt, please call your local police department before exchanging any money over the phone.”
