CLAY COUNTY, Texas – The arrest affidavit for the 18-year-old stepfather charged with the capital murder of a Clay County toddler, who was shot in the back of the head on Tuesday, has been released.

George Coty Wayman was arrested last night.

According to the arrest affidavit, Clay County Sheriff’s Office  received a 911 call at 2:56 p.m. Tuesday from a fifth wheel trailer located at 4784 Buffalo Springs Road, between Joy and Vashti.

The 911 caller reported that a three-year-old child was shot in the head and believed to be dead.

When officials arrived at the scene, the child was identified as Dominic Tra’Juan Castro.

The affidavit states his mother is identified as Veronica Rene Castro.

The child was taken to United Regional and pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m.  Wednesday.

Initially, witnesses told investigators the boy was jumping on the bed and and caused a gun on the bed to accidentally discharge.

Officials say subsequent interviews revealed George Coty Wayman pointed the gun at the boy and told him if he didn’t stop jumping on the bed he would shoot him, and he fired the gun and struck the boy in the back of the head.

They say evidence in the bedroom of the trailer corroborates the witness’s account.

One witness told us at the scene the same version of the boy jumping on the bed and causing the gun to accidentally discharge.

Sheriff Lemons says at this time no additional charges are expected on witnesses who may have given false information or obstructed the investigation.
