Sweetwater completes dog park as first municipal development project

SWEETWATER, Texas (KRBC) – The first project for The Municipal Development District (MDD) is complete in Sweetwater. If you remember they moved from a Type A to MDD back in July of last year, meaning they can do quality of life projects. The first one a dog park at Newman Park.
“At first I kind of thought who that doesn’t already have a backyard, since it’s not a large city, is going to use it,” said Miesha Adames, a local dog owner.

Adames seeing people’s excitement on social media.

“All over Facebook everybody comes and posts and actually utilizes are dog park and it’s just pretty exciting because I know it’s just one of the many projects that are to come,” said Adames.

“People have so many choices. We have generations that won’t take a job because they don’t necessarily like areas well what we are trying to do is up the quality of life to give them better park areas, dog park, the splash pad and things like that so when they come here and they are not working they have exciting things to do,” said Ken Becker, Executive Director, Sweetwater Economics Development MBD. 

Becker saying they are showing they can keep their word.
“A lot of times cities talk about doing things and it never gets done. I think right now we are proving to people that when we talk about something we are going to do our best to make it happen,” said Becker.

All this work to bring in all generations of people.

“We know that when people decide to move to an area, a job is not only important but the quality of life in that community. We think that a dog park is just the first step in making that happen,” said Becker.

The next step in the quality of life, a splash pad at Newman Park and hope to start construction in the next 60 days. The dog parks grand opening is happening Saturday morning at 10:30 am with dog contests like best tricks and costume.
