SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) issued a statement Thursday evening regarding reports of Verizon customer information being stolen by a phone scam.

The suspect or suspects have been reported to call customers attempting to reset their account passwords and pose as customer service associates asking to verify the password reset code received by the customer.

After learning the code, the scammer(s) will then use the code to take control of the customer’s account, according to SPD. From there, the scammer(s) will order new phones or add phones to the customer’s account without their knowledge.

Phones being delivered to the unknowing customers are typically intercepted from the delivery service being used before they arrive, according to SPD.

Those with questions or information regarding the incident are asked to call the Sweetwater Police Department at 325-236-6686.
