ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Those who love fishing are invited to participate in the trout derby happening Saturday in Abilene.
Texas Parks and Wildlife employees brought a truckload of frying-pan sized rainbow trout to Abilene's Cal Young Park.
Parks and Wildlife is working with the Abilene Parks and Recreation Department for a day of fishing.
Organizers of the event say not having a fishing pole shouldn't prevent you from participating, as they'll have extras there for those who need them.
The derby begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m.
"To see a youngster catch their first fish, it's priceless," says fish biologist Natalie Lundstrohm.
Those under 17 don't need a fishing license, but adults still need the license to put their lines in the water.
