ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Two Abilene Police K9s were euthanized on Friday. One was an active member of the force, and the other had recently retired.
The Abilene Police Department is mourning the loss of K9s Thor and Tex. Police confirm both dogs were euthanized at separate times on Friday due to undisclosed medical issues.
Tex was an active member of the Abilene Police Department before his passing. He was eight-years-old and still working the streets under the commander of his handler Officer Kevin Easley. He recently helped his handler capture a suspect who stole a gun from Wild Bill's Pawn Shop at the intersection of Ambler Avenue and Grape Street.
Thor was retired from the force just weeks before his passing. He served alongside his handler Officer Josh New for years before retirement.
APD has not announced any memorial or funeral service plans for the K9s as of 3:45 p.m. Monday afternoon.
