WICHITA COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) – Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a double fatality involving two semi-trucks early Wednesday morning in Wichita County.

According to DPS spokesman Sgt. Dan Buesing, it happened at 2 a.m. near Highway 287 and Rifle Range Road. That’s when Buesing said two 18-wheelers traveling north collided with one another for an unknown reason, which caused both vehicles to crash.

According to Buesing, the crash caused one of the vehicles to catch fire and shortly after caused the second to catch fire.

One driver was able to escape from his burning vehicle with minor injuries, Buesing said. However, two people from the other burning vehicle did not make it out and were pronounced dead on the scene.

The victims have not yet been identified and the cause of the collision is still unknown.
