ABILENE, Texas (KRBC) – Two new businesses are set to open this month in downtown Abilene.
“It had to be different and it had to be something that Abilene hasn’t seen before,” said Crystal Staggs, Owner of The Green Room.
Staggs knew where she wanted her bar to be located.
“Downtown is the heart of Abilene and so we wanted to be here,” said Staggs.
Choosing where Abi-Haus use to be, allowing easy access for those who work downtown.
“I just wanted to walk across the street, have a drink and go home,” said Staggs.
Last month there were about eight projects in development or predevelopment for downtown.
“Most of what is going on right now is along the lines of the restaurant and bar scene. There is a project going on right now for a small residential project that is going to add 18 units apartments,” said Steve Dieterichs, Executive Director, Abilene Chamber Of Commerce Downtown Initiative.
Even with the growth of the night life, existing restaurants, like Cypress Street, are welcoming new comers.
“We are all striving to help each other to do better, to bring business to each others stores and just be good neighbors,” said Amanda O’Connor, Cypress Street Owner.
Parking sometimes making it hard for new neighbors to come.
“We do have some issues with parking. A lot of times it’s not immediately what people think about but in terms of getting a company down here that wants to bring 50 or 60 employees to park for eight hours that’s where we really have the problem.”
Another place opening this month in downtown, The Hollows, where Cru used to be on Pine Street.
