ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Rock painting will be the newest addition to contests taking place at the  West Texas Fair and Rodeo.

The contest, spearheaded by the popular group Big Country Rocks, will be broken-down into the following age groups: Seniors, Adults, Teens, and Children. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each group.

The theme for this year’s fair is “Pride in our Past, Faith in our Future”. There will also be a free-style category.

All submissions must be brought to the Modern Living Mall at the Taylor County Expo Center on September 5, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Expo Center is located at 1700 TX-36 in Abilene. Submissions will be displayed at the mall for the duration of the 2017 fair.

Big Country Rocks is a community-wide project that involves participants painting rocks, hiding them, then leaving them for other participants to find and share on social media.

Any kind of artwork is welcomed, organizers just ask that participants somehow reference “Big Country Rocks!” and include a message or label on the back that says “Please share your finding on Facebook.”
