ABILENE, Texas (KRBC) – People travel from across the state and even the nation for various events at the Taylor County Expo Center.
“The information about the new barn is getting out across the country and we are getting phone calls,” said Rochelle Johnson, General Manager for the Taylor County Expo Center.
As construction continues to revamp facilities, they continue to try and bring in new events. For example, the National Barrel Horse Association’s Quarter Horse Show coming at the end of June.
“It’s a show that actually was here years and years ago and left here because of the facilities, the condition of the facilities and so forth,” said Johnson.
They are hoping the associations continues to keep coming and grow.
“There’s a contract for them to be here this year and then we will see how it goes from here but I imagine that once we get the second facility built we will be able to get them back for a larger show. This is a three day show but I imagine we will get them back for several shows throughout the year,” said Johnson.
Cass Tatum has been coming to the cutting show for 10 years and says he is impressed with the new 20,000 square-foot livestock barn.
“It’s just nice you know. It makes this place look a lot better. When it’s finished it’s going to be just as nice as anything,” said Cass Tatum, contestant from Oklahoma.
With phase one complete, and phase two in the works, people are excited to see what comes next.
“Yeah we will come back every year,” said Tatum.
They are looking to add more cattle and horse shows in the future but nothing is official yet.
