Pedestrian killed on Winters Freeway in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A pedestrian was killed while walking along the Winters Freeway late Friday night, according to Abilene police.

Police said a pedestrian was crossing the northbound lanes of the freeway near South First St. when he was hit.

Dispatch received a call of a crash involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on the 300 Block of US Highway 277 also known as Winters Freeway, north bound lane.

First responders arrived quickly to find a Hispanic male laying in the roadway. Traffic was rerouted and Traffic Officers were called in to investigate.

The investigation shows that 34-year-old Jose Lupe Alvarado Jr. of Stamford, was hit by a 2011 Buick Lacrosse driven by an 18-year-old female.

Justice of the Peace Sparky Dean pronounced Mr. Alvarado deceased at 10:30 p.m., the time of the collision. Next of Kin notification was made.



The investigation is ongoing.
