ABILENE, TX (KRBC/KTAB)- Three men were arrested after Abilene Police caught them red handed, stealing from a local storage unit  in South Abilene.

According to a police report, the men made entry into a locked storage unit by cutting the lock and stole property, including a shotgun. 

A patrol officer observed them leaving the storage facility and stopped them for a traffic violation, according to the report.

A K-9 unit was called to the traffic stop and advised police of drugs in the vehicle.

One of the defendants dumped a usable amount of marijuana into a cup with liquid in it to destroy the evidence. 

Daniel Hayes, John Wayne Godsey and Robert Knorring were all arrested on charges associated with the theft.

All the stolen property was given back to the owner, says the report.

All three men remain in the Taylor County Jail.

The owner of the storage unit is wishing to press charges.
