ERATH COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A mother and her two young children were killed when a car was swept into an Erath County creek during flooding Wednesday morning.

The high-water rescue mission began sometime around 5:30 a.m. after a vehicle drove into a creek off SH 1702 and CR 335.

First responders at the scene told KTAB and KRBC a family of four – identified as Gerardo and Maria Ramirez and their two children – was inside the car when it went into the water.

They found Gerardo clinging to a tree and were able to rescue him, but they searched for hours before finding Maria and her children, ages 3 and 7, deceased.

Maria was found inside her vehicle and the children were located downstream.

A submerged vehicle was also removed from the creek.
