SAN ANTONIO (AP/ KXAN) — The father of missing baby King Jay Davila reportedly led investigators to the baby's body. It was in a backpack buried under a bridge in San Antonio.
After a week-long search for the 8-month-old baby, the new details surfaced in an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio.
Christopher Davila reportedly led detectives to the body of the baby, which was wrapped in a blanket and placed in a backpack.
Authorities have not released the cause or manner of death and King's body was sent to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
On Thursday, San Antonio police said they believed King was dead and his father, grandmother and cousin were facing charges of tampering with evidence in connection with his disappearance. Christopher Davila was facing a child endangerment charge.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in a Thursday night press conference that Christopher Davila was believed to have badly injured King and then lied to police, saying the baby was in a car that was stolen.
McManus said Beatrice Sampayo, the child's grandmother, was suspected of disposing of the child's car seat and dropping off Angie Torres, the child's cousin, who was seen on surveillance video as participating in a staged kidnapping.
