Texas K9 Officer Shot and Killed in Line of Duty

(LINDALE, TX) – A manhunt is underway in Smith County Tuesday afternoon following a traffic stop near the city of Lindale and Interstate 20.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office stated the incident stems from a Smith County Constable Precinct 5 traffic stop at FM 849 and I-20 W. A police K-9 was fatally shot, however, events leading up to the shooting are unclear at this time.

Two people have been taken into custody and a third person is on the loose. Authorities say the man ran into a wooded area.

A perimeter is being set up in the area with several agencies involved and a DPS helicopter has been called in to assist.

KETK had confirmed with multiple law enforcement authorities, the K-9 killed is Officer Ogar. He had just received a donated protection vest on Monday.
