The Albany Lady Lions fell one game short of the State Championship at the hands of Bells, falling 13-0 in 5 innings.
With the loss to the Lady Panthers, Albany’s season has come to a close.
BCH Sports Reporter Mary Margaret Johnson gave a recap of the game from Austin.
Mary Margaret Johnson said, “It’s been five years since the Albany Lady Lions found themselves back in Austin for the State Tournament. Now, after a hard fought season and an undefeated record through the playoffs, the Albany Lady Lions season comes to an end at the hands of reigning State Champion Bells. This season has been especially special for this group of six Albany seniors who never had a playoff win until this year. And no matter the outcome of todays game, head coach Jimmy Fuentes says he’s proud of these girls.”
Jimmy Fuentes said, “I just appreciate them. We put a lot of pressure on them as freshmen, they’ve been three year starters for us, most of them, like I said earlier, for them to start off that way and three years where they didn’t even have a playoff win, and then to have the season that they’ve had this year and to have it end here, I know it doesn’t feel great for them now and it doesn’t feel great for me either right now, but when we look back, we’ll understand what it is we accomplished, and that group of seniors will understand. Overall I’m proud of them, still when you look at the big picture you’re one of the four teams left in the state of Texas. If you’re going to end your season, this is the best place to end it. Overall, I’m real proud of them.”
