It’s football time in Texas for the Albany Lions.
Denney Faith said, “It’s always a great time of year, and we’re ready to start playing some games.”
There’s still a couple of weeks before the first Friday night lights of the season, but Albany is ready. This season, the Lions are looking to go undefeated in district for the 10th year in a row.
Cameron Dacus said, “It’s always good to win, I think as you keep winning it just gives you more confidence and not necessarily makes you feel unbeatable but it makes you feel like you can play with anybody in the state.”
The 2018 Lions head into the season missing a couple of key spots after graduating big names like Brian Hamilton, Dax Neese, and Adam Faith, but this year’s team is prepared to fill those positions.
Ryan Hill said, “Those guys are hard to replace, but if we just work hard and do the little things right, it’s like they never left.”
Mary Margaret Johnson said, “The Albany Lions are a football program that is riddled with tradition. Each year, they want to take it one step further than they did the year before. This year’s class is no different.”
Denney Faith said, “The tradition that we have puts a little bit of pressure on them too, especially the seniors, those guys don’t want to be the group that says that we didn’t get in the playoffs or make a deep run or something like that, so the tradition that we have obviously is something that they build off of.”
Hill said, “The season was cut short last year and this year, the senior class isn’t going to let that happen. We’re going to go all the way. Just because of last year, we’ve got a ring to get.”
The Lions start ring chasing when they take on Colorado City in the first week of the season.
