Anson ready for familiar faces in 3A

The Anson Tigers are starting a new era as they move back up to Class 3A.

The Tigers spent the last few years as a Class 2A Division I team, but now they are in Division II of Class 3A.

It’s an adjustment to go from one of the biggest schools in your class to one of the smallest, but head coach John Hagler says it’s not that big a deal because their opponents are some old rivals.

Hagler said, “We’re moving into schools that we’ve played historically, Anson has played Bangs, we’ve played Ballinger, and so some of those schools are closer to our enrollment but as a whole you’ve just got to take it for what it is. It’s like Christmas again, you get to open up a new package, you’re playing somebody different so you’ve got to embrace it or you can hide from it.”

Jaron Castillo said, “As we’ve been out on the field, I’ve seen my boys, I see that they’re ready to take on anything and I feel like I’ve got a lot of trust in them. We’re working hard, putting in extra hours, and I see a lot of heart in my boys right now.”

The Tigers play a couple of scrimmages and then open the 2018 season at Hamlin.
