Cooper Cougars prepared for stretch run

The Cooper Cougars are getting ready to start the final 2/3rds of the District 4-5A season Tuesday afternoon.

The Cougars started district with a pair of wins over Rider and Wichita Falls High, but cooled off in the next two with losses to Wylie and Aledo.

This week they play a pair with Rider, and they want to get this part of the season off to a good start.

Head Coach Cody Salyers said, Pitching has been there for most of the year, bats have been off and on. Our biggest achilles has been defense at times where we’re playing really well and all of a sudden deciding to kick the ball around a few times and then lose some close games so we’ve been working really hard at cleaning that up. Hopefully we’re in the mood to start hitting our stride and getting ready to make a run here in the district.

Matthew Shira said, We’re good on the mound, good in the outfield, good in the field, we just need to clean up a few errors, just a few mix-ups and our hitting has gotten a lot better. I think we can do good as a team going on in district.

The Cougars are at home Tuesday afternoon against Rider, and they play the Raiders again on Friday in Wichita Falls.
