Cougars worked on fixing turnovers this week

Cooper head coach Aaron Roan and his team are trying to pick themselves up after their first district loss of the season.

The loss to Coronado can be summed up by saying they made too many mistakes.

They turned the ball over five times. They committed nine penalties, and coach Roan said the execution wasn’t good enough.

That a lot, but the Cougars say they worked this week to eliminate those errors.

Aidan Thompson said, “We worked on it. You don’t want to have a couple of interceptions and a couple of fumbles and a bunch of penalties. That’s not how you execute a ball game. We’ve been working on that during practice and after practice, and we are taking care of that.”

Roan said, “Offensively, we reemphasis and work ball security, those types of things. A lot of it dealt with execution, so we’ve got to fix our execution and execute at a higher level.”

The Cougars play Amarillo Palo Duro for the first time since 1969. Cooper won that game.

The two teams play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Amarillo.
