The Cooper Cougars are working to bounce back from their first loss in three weeks today.
Their loss to Lubbock High on Tuesday snapped a five-game winning streak.
So, how does the head baseball coach deal with the disappointment of losing after a good long stretch?
Cooper coach Cody Saylers says it all starts with knowing his team and what buttons to push.
“It’s one of those deals where you just have to have a feel for your players. I mean we have a lot of guys where if you get on them then maybe they really start pressing and kind of get down on themselves but you know if you kind of goof around with them and joke with them sometimes then they’ll go out there and give you a better effort,” Salyers said.
“We’re in that deal where we’re joking around but they’re still getting their work done and they’ve kind of taken it upon themselves to work hard instead of us having to push them and that’s when you know you’re going in the right direction.”
Cooper is still very much in the hunt for the District 4-5A championship.
The Cougars play Lubbock High again on Friday.
They are 0-2 against the Westerners this season. Friday’s game is at Cougar Field at 5.
