Hinson’s guys take the field in War Hawks opener

The McMurry War Hawks are going to be the first Big Country team to take the field this season.

They open on Thursday night.

For the first time in half a decade the War Hawks are eligible for play for a championship.

That’s exciting, but what’s really exciting for head coach Lance Hinson is that his team is excited, and he and his staff recruited every player on the squad.

Coach Hinson said, “As a staff, we said that there was a different feeling. I don’t know if it’s because of this, but this is our first full team. Every player on this team our staff recruited. In years in the past, that hadn’t been the truth. These guys have come out every single practice excited. I didn’t have to motivate them. I don’t think I’m going to have to a say a word to them at 5:50 on Thursday night. At 6 on Thursday night, these guys are going to be ready to go. I don’t know what is going to be our offensive strength or defensive strength. I like this team, though.”

The War Hawks get the new season started Thursday night at Moore Stadium.

They kick off against Trinity at 6 p.m.
