RICHARDSON, Texas – The American Southwest Conference today released the 2018 ASC Volleyball Preseason Poll and Howard Payne University was picked to finish fifth in the ASC West Division, after a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Howard Payne University, who finished 9-20 overall and 6-10 in league play last season, received 51 points to finish fifth in the ASC West Division preseason poll. The Yellow Jackets missed the conference tournament last season after making an appearance the year before. They are entering their under fourth year under the direction of head coach Colleen Westfall.
The Lady Jackets return ASC West Division standouts Zhartaezia Bradley and Kailey Doering, both of which are recognized on the ASC preseason players to watch list.
Howard Payne will open the 2018 season at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas on September 4. After playing in Austin College Tournament in Sherman, Texas on September 7-8, the Lady Jackets will open ASC play at Sul Ross State on September 11, and will have their home opener on September 14th at 7:00 pm versus Hardin Simmons University.
ASC Season Notes:
Regular season play will begin Friday, September 4. The ASC Championship is scheduled for November 1-3 and will be hosted at the site of the West Division No. 1 seed. An automatic berth to NCAA Division III Championship will be on the line.
Belhaven University and McMurry University will be eligible for the regular season title, the ASC Championship Tournament, and the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament after serving their suspension due to NCAA reclassifying rules.
The University of Texas at Tyler will be ineligible for the regular season title, the ASC Championship Tournament and NCAA Division III Championship Tournament due to NCAA reclassifying rules.
