ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ football team opened its 2018 fall camp with 188 players for a 6 p.m. practice on Thursday evening at Shelton Stadium.
“This is the first time we get to go out as a team but it didn’t start today, this started all the way back in November in Oregon,” said HSU head coach Jesse Burleson. “We have done the things to get to this point and we are looking to improve on it every drill, every rep, every day.”
Chris Miller said, “We’ve been waiting since last November to start up again, we’ve been working hard all summer and all offseason. It’s time to go and we’re ready for it.”
Alex Bell said, “It’s kind of like that first day back at school when you see all your buddies again so, we kind of act kind of goofy when we first see each other but we’ll get it together.”
Reese Childress said, “It’s really exciting getting to back with all your brothers on the field, in the locker room, just hanging out 24/7, you can’t beat that.”
The Cowboys return a bevy of talent with 14 returning starters and 66 returning letterwinners.
HSU will open its season on Sept. 8 at Trinity at 6 p.m.
