The HSU Cowboys start the NCAA Division III playoffs on Saturday up in Oregon against Linfield.
The 6th ranked Cowboys are very familiar with Linfield.
The Wildcats came to Abilene last year and beat HSU at Shelton Stadium in the first round.
Some will try to tell you that this game is like any other.
They know and we know that’s not true. This is the playoffs. You win or you go home, and that adds some urgency to this one.
Vic Rodriguez said, “There’s still a little bit of a taste in our mouth from them coming all the way down here and beating us, but you know we’re actually excited. Some of us have never been on a plane including me. Our mentality going into the playoffs is not acting like it’s another week because it’s not. It’s literally a one game season now. Just like in the regular season where we could lose one game one and there’s still hope, but this is it for us, and us seniors we’re making it very clear that we don’t want to be done just yet.”
Jesse Burleson said, “This is just the next step in the progression, so it’s a one game season. We’re going to throw everything we’ve got into this and try to be great fundamentally and put together a complete game all three phases and go play extremely well in Oregon.”
HSU and Linfield get together in McMinnville, Oregon on Saturday.
The Cowboys are ranked 6th. The Wildcats are ranked 8th.
They kick at 2 p.m.
