Former Brownwood head coach Kyle Maxfield is leading the Bangs Dragons through the first week of practice.
Maxfield inherits a program with just two wins in 29 games over the last three years with no playoff appearances.
The Dragons are a serious rebuilding project, but it’s a project Masfield is happy to begin.
Maxfield said, “It’s one of the most exciting times of my career. Being out here with these kids and the hunger you see in their eyes and the effort that they are giving us. We couldn’t ask any more from these kids than what they are giving us right now. The whole community centers around the school. I’ve met some great people. We want to make these people smile again on Friday nights. Hopefully we can get the point where the community takes pride in the product we put out on Friday night.”
Seth Anderson said, “We’re more amped up, like, ready to go. We put in a lot more effort. We’re a lot more on time, and it’s working good.”
Bangs is another school going with a different look this year. They go from shiny green helmets to white with gray face masks.
The Dragons open the 2018 season at home against Early on August 31.
