The Abilene High Lady Eagles started their bi-district series with a resounding 23-0 victory over Arlington High last night.
The Lady Eagles pounded out 20 hits, and Kaylen Washington delivered a two-hitter and struck out 12.
It was a big win, but it was just one on the way to much bigger things.
“I don’t think we create anything different than what the girls expect to do,” Head Coach Jim Reese said. “They expect to go in and play well, they know there’s going to be adversity.”
“We know what’s coming, we know what’s not. We know what they’re strong at, we know what they’re weak at,” Sydnee Killam said. “It’s comforting to know what we can do on that end.”
“Our mentality is definitely maximum effort to get to Austin, we really want to get to Austin and get to that state game and that’s our goal. In order to get there, we’ve got to stay calm, stay focused, and have a lot of energy.”
The Lady Eagles continue their series with the Lady Colts on Saturday. Game two is at Abilene High at 2 pm.
