Rough 2017 motivates 2018 Eagles

Head coach Del Van Cox and his Abilene High Eagles struggled to a 3-7 record in the 2017 season.

A lot of the players that were on the field in their season finale last November are back for the 2018 season.

That was a tough season for every one involved, and coach Cox says his guys used that during the offseason to get ready for this year.

Coach Cox said, “The experience that those guys got that had to come out and play for us because they were thrust into some positions that they didn’t really need to be in at the time. The valuable experience that they gained is going to help us tremendously this year. The more you know the faster you can play. That’s a big deal. The speed of the game. If you know exactly what you are doing, then you can play at a fast pace, and that’s a big deal for us.”

The Eagles are headed to Amarillo for their season opener against Tascosa.

Abilene High is 12-6 in openers since the year 2000.
