RICHARDSON, Texas – The McMurry University football team has been predicted to finish eighth in the 2018 American Southwest Conference pre-season poll of the league’s coaches, sports information directors and media, it was announced by the ASC office.
The War Hawks (2-8 in 2017) will be eligible for NCAA post-season play this season, after completing its reclassifying process back to full Division III membership.
It will be the first time that McM teams can compete for the NCAA playoffs since the 2011-12 season. With nine eligible members, the ASC will once again have an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship in 2018. The regular season champion will be selected to the playoffs which begin on Saturday, November 17.
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor was tabbed as the ASC’s top team, garnering 293 points and 23 of a possible 30 first place votes. Hardin-Simmons University received the other seven first place votes and amassed 276 points.
The War Hawks will have the honor of officially opening the 2018 campaign for all ASC teams. McMurry will host Trinity University on Thursday, August 30 at Wilford Moore Stadium, with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
