Wednesday was a very good day for the Wylie tennis team at the Region I-4A tournament as their dominance in the region continues. The Bulldogs are going to state in 4 of the 5 events, and that group is being led by the defending state champs in mixed doubles. Spencer Lin and Ashley Smyser defended their regional title by default today up in Lubbock. The boy on the other team was injured.
In boys doubles, Nikhil Kalla and Davyn Williford played Shaw and Stelluti from Snyder in a rematch of the district championship match. Wylie wins it, again. Kalla and Williford win it 6-4 and 6-1 to move on to the state tournament.
Analeah Elias and Emly Corn are headed to the state tournament. They dominated a team from Andrews for the regional championship. They advance with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The girls singles was an all Wylie affair. Kaitlyn Hathorn and Shruti Patel battled for three sets before Hathorn won. Patel took the first set, but Hathorn bounced back to win the final 2 sets 6-love, 6-love for the regional title. Hathorn is state bound. Patel lost her playback match.
