The Wylie Bulldogs and the rest of the Big Country start the regular season this week.
Head coach Hugh Sandifer and his team are set to get the new season started at home.
The Bulldogs started working for this week last spring, through the summer, and since practice started two weeks ago.
It’s been a long wait to finally play a game that counts in the won/loss columns, and they are ready to get the 2018 season underway.
Sandifer said, “We’ve been looking forward to this since last January, the kids started working in the offseason in January in preparation for the 2018 season and now it’s here. I told them it’d be here fast and now that’s a lot of days in the offseason, strength and conditioning, fall camp, but it’s here and kids are excited, coaches are excited. The biggest excitement is that for these kids, it’s a trailblaze for their first year in 5A, some nice stadium improvements. We’ve just got to go out, have fun, play football, and get better each week.”
Wylie starts the Class 5A era on Friday night.
They host Georgetown at Bulldog Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
