It’s a busy forecast, so take some time to find out what we’re expecting tonight and this weekend!
Tonight: First thing’s first, we’re picking up an 80% chance of showers and storms throughout the overnight and early morning hours tomorrow. Some isolated to scattered storms could start building as early as this evening around 8 to 9 pm, with much more widespread rain and thunderstorms filling in behind those heading into the late-night hours.
THREAT: Most of the Big Country is under a Slight Risk (2/5) for severe weather tonight, with strong, damaging winds and large hail being our primary threats. Due to the nature of the severe weather we’re anticipating, we can’t rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado embedded in a line of thunderstorms. Temperatures tonight will stay around 50 for most of us.
A cold front will pass through tonight that will shift our winds to the north, giving us much cooler weather for Saturday.
Saturday: Storms will continue through the morning and early afternoon hours. The good news is, our severe weather potential will lessen after the initial round of storms passes through to the east and into the metroplex. Rain could be persistent well into the afternoon and evening hours especially from I-20 north. Temperatures will top out early in the lower 50’s before falling into the 40’s for most of the day. Rain chances will finally end by tomorrow evening.
Rainfall totals are expected to be anywhere from .25″ all the way to 1.5″ or more, depending on how persistent the rain is in the afternoon/evening hours.
Some of our northwestern counties could even see some wintry mix/precip throughout the morning and early afternoon hours, but temperatures won’t drop below freezing so no accumulation is expected.
My personal advice, stay home/inside tomorrow if you can!
Future Weather Discussion: As we move into Sunday and beyond, temperatures will rebound rather quickly, with high temperatures topping out near 70 for Sunday and climbing well in the 80’s through the middle parts of next week. We are eyeing another cold front Wednesday night that will knock our temperatures down again, but all in, after tonight and tomorrow, the only thing we’ll need to worry about for weather is some strong wind.
