Friday, May 17, 2019: *WEATHER ALERT DAY* Severe storms likely Fri night-Sat

Weather Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY:

The K-TAB weather center center has issued *WEATHER ALERT DAYS* for both Friday and Saturday while putting an emphasie on the Friday night though Saturday morning time frame. The SPC has issued a *ENHANCED RISK FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS* for this time period. All modes of severe weather will be possible. These include very large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and tornadoes. Most of the day for Friday will be okay. It will be muggy and breezy. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 80’s, and the wind will come from the south at 15-25 MPH with wind gusts up to 30 MPH. Then during the later afternoon the severe weather chances ramp up. A dry line will mix to the west of the forecast area Friday afternoon initiating discrete severe thunderstorms. As they moved to the east, into our area, they will encounter a capping inversion which will weaken the thunderstorms. So during this time frame the threat for severe thunderstorms will exist, but the greater threat will come Friday night into Saturday morning when a upper level low along with a cold front move though. Numerous severe storms will be possible during this time. A few severe storms may form in the afternoon hours on Saturday ahead of the cold front. Once the cold front moves through more stable air will be in place.

For Sunday things clear out nice as temperatures rise to the lower 90’s.

The severe weather threat will return for Monday and Tuesday next week. The rest of the week looks a bit unsettled as well.
