KRBC AM Forecast: Dangerous fire conditions today

Critical fire danger today with very strong winds and highs in the 90s…

Temperatures are still very warm this morning, in the 60s and still some 70s across the Big County under mostly clear skies. Winds are already breezy, out of the south around 10 to 25 mph. 

A critical fire day is in store this afternoon with hot temperatures, strong winds and dry conditoins. Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings go into effect this morning until late tonight across the entire Big Country with the strongest of the winds expected in the far western and northwestern parts of the region. Winds will be out of the southwest around 20 to 35 mph with wind gusts as high as 65 mph at times. A Red Flag Warning will go into effect later this morning too until late tonight for the western half of the Big Country due to the critical fire concnerns with the strong winds, dry air and highs that will climb into the mid 90s this afternoon. Do not burn anything today.

A cold front tonight will bring lighter winds into Thursday and much cooler weather. Another cold front Friday night will bring even colder weather this weekend, along with a chance for showers and thunderstorms Saturday morning and into the afternoon. A Marginal Risk for severe weather is already out across parts of the Big Country for an isolated strong to severe storm Saturday.  

Today: Mostly sunny. Dangerous fire conditions. Southwest winds around 20 to 35 mph. Wind gusts up to 45 to 65 mph. Highs in the mid 90s. 

Tonight: Cold front. Mostly clear. West winds becoming northwest around 10 to 20 mph. Wind gusts up to 25 mph. Lows in the mid 50s.

Thursday: Mostly sunny. Northwest winds around 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph. Highs around 70°.

Friday: Mostly sunny. 20% chance for rain late Friday night. Lows in the mid 40s. Highs in the low 70s.

Saturday: 40% chance for scattered showers. An isolated strong storm possible. Cloudy skies. Lows in the upper 40s. Highs in the mid 50s.

Sunday: Sunny. Lows in the upper 30s. Highs around 70°.

Monday: Mostly sunny. Lows around 50°. Highs in the mid 80s.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Lows in the upper 50s. Highs in the mid 80s.
