Warm weather continues today with highs across the Big Country climbing into the mid and upper 80s. A couple 90s may be possible northwest. Winds will become breezier heading into the afternoon, as high as 20 mph at times as skies will become increasinly sunny into the afternoon.

There is an Enhanced Risk for severe weather across the western half of the Big Country mainly Friday night into early Saturday morning. This does include the city of Abilene. Storms are expected to initiate along a dry line west of the Big Country and move eastward with a cold front into Saturday morning. Numerous strong to severe storms will be likely as these storm move across our region. Large hail will be the main hazard with severe storms storms, with significantly large hail possible in some isolated locations, over 2″ in diameter. Damaging winds, flooding and isolated tornadoes will also be possible overnight and into early Saturday morning.

Storms become more linear as they move into the central and eastern Big Country by mid morning on Saturday. There is a Slight Risk for severe weather across the eastern half of the area after 7:00 a.m. Large hail, damaging winds, flooding and isolated tornadoes are still the main hazard, with a better chance for severe weather into central and east Texas. Storms are forecast to exit the Big Country by noon on Saturday, giving way to sunny and dry conditions the rest of the weekend.
